Vin organised a visit to HMAS Castlemaine and Replica Survey Tall Ship Enterprise Sunday 27 April 2025
Reference: Incorporating visits to HMAS Castlemaine and Replica Survey Tall Ship Enterprise
Hello All,
Yesterday's excursion began at 10:00 am when a convoy of three cars left for Gem Pier Williams Town. Four wives/partners also accompanied members on this venture. We arrived at Gem Pier at 11:00 am after finding parking. Cost of the visit to the Corvette was $10 per person. Guides were stationed at points around the ship, who were very helpful and informative. We spent an hour and a half exploring the Castlemain, learning quite a lot of history on the way. Lunch was at one of the local restaurants , where it was decided to forgo the visit to Seaworks in favour of a cruise on the Tall Ship Enterprise. The Enterprise cruise began around 03:00 pm with cast off. Safety instructions were given, and because there was enough wind, the captain decided to use sails for the trip, using the engine when returning to port only. This gave us a look into how square riggers were sailed and tacking was achieved. A sea shanty was sung as we sailed. All found this an enjoyable fascinating trip, so thanks to AJ for initiating this. Photos are obtained via the links below:Kind Regards Vin Wragg
